Guess what? It's that time of year again to join hand in hand while singing one last carol to start up 2008, even though New Year's was a few days ago. Ohhhhhhh...
On the 1st Month of the Year, something happened to me:
We have a new evil kitty!
Yes, she's evil, but she stole Stacey's heart Christmas of 2006. January was the time that the kitten was still a bit hostile to me when I got too close. However, we're pretty much pals now, but sometimes I still do enjoy chasing that mischief-maker out in the backyard. She definitely does NOT have Kitka's popular vote, though.
On the 2nd Month of the Year, something happened to me:
Time for yummy heart-shaped candy!
It's not so much important, but with Valentines Day going on, candy was oh so popular around the house. I can still remember those jelly cherry sugar hearts tingling my tongue.
On the 3rd Month of the Year, something happened to me:
Emma gets presents, but what about me?
Emma's now 7 years old, only 1 year away from being baptized into the church. Looks like she's getting her haul of presents and a delicious birthday cake which I can't have. Boo...
On the 4th Month of the Year, something happened to me:
Bye, Bye Fuzzy...
That little hamster, Cheesecake, Stacey's smallest pet, at 2-and-a-half years-old, died this year in April. Even though the span was average, it was still unexpected and took its toll on the Sleight girls. It's sad that I won't be seeing that little guy's whiskers twitch, anymore...
On the 5th Month of the Year, something happened to me:
Another year for Stacey!
Yep, that animal-loving artist is finally 14 and in the miamaid class, now. She was sure excited when she got that spiffy MP3 Player for her birthday. When spring had sprung, it was out to the backyard with her and that Sansa!
On the 6th Month of the Year, something happened to me:
Where is that older kitty?
Kitka made a shocking disappearance from the neighborhood bringing the family into panic-mode. With 15 years on her shoulders, they were afraid that that cat was toast. Suddenly, a miracle happened. If it wasn't for Stacey's final attempt to find the Russian Blue using fliers, we wouldn't have gotten that call from that nice family that they had Kitka! It turns out that a moving family had found her on Canyon Street with no collar, assuming she was a stray, and took her with them to their home near Lexington and the Bombing Range Streets. The good thing was that they were willing to let her come back with us since they already had 2 kitties. Though she did hate riding back home in the car...
On the 7th Month of the Year, something happened to me:

Happy Birthday to Me!
Yay, it's time for my terrible twos'! Stacey was sure excited since my birthday is on the same day as her older brother, Steven and Grandpa Tibbitts' birthdays were. We sang the birthday song and blew out the candles on my animal bi-product flavored hunk of meat! Good thing we got the food before this year's tragic pet food recall which killed millions of pets... :(
On the 8th Month of the Year, something happened to me:

Why go on vacation without me?!
Well, the Sleight Clan is out in Utah vacationing with other family members, so me, Allie, Kitka, and the bettas are stuck at home. Fortunately, we got Jake's, the furry red golden, owners, the Nelson's, to come pet-sitting us. So things were still fun. At least they got to go on vacation before some of the family returned to school.
On the 9th Month of the Year, something happened to me:

2 Years in a Place that's Happy...
Before I was in the house, the former dog, Bo the Beagle, died September 30, 2 years ago. His death was mourned, but not dwelled on, for Bo will have already found paradise and never know pain again. Maybe if I had known him, we could've eaten delicious trash together...
On the 10th Month of the Year, something happened to me:

Things are getting Halloweeny!
Break out the candy and sew the costumes, it's time for Halloween! This year I felt a bit more connected to Emma and Stacey when they dressed up like close brethren of mine: a poodle and a wolf!
On the 11th Month of the Year, something happened to me:
A Bite of Juicy Turkey!
Thanksgiving means feasting and feasting means leftovers! It's like dog heaven when I eat Mom's delectable homemade rolls along with a slice of turkey smothered in gravy.
On the 12th Month of the Year, something happened to me:

Break out the Ol' Christmas Tree!!
Finally the season of Christmas! Alicia and Brian came this year and boy did I get my hair in their business, literally! At least my hair on their luggage will give them something to remember me by.

Well, that's all of 2007 for the Sleight Pets. We hope that you had a great year and have more great years to come. Hurrah for 2008!
